Children with hearing impairment have a complex range of needs, those with significant hearing impairment should receive some degree of support from a specialist practionner. In the UK there are mandatory qualifications for Teachers of the Deaf.
Specialist support will be in the form of full-time teachers in specialist schools or a peripetitic teacher in mainstream or other non-specialist special schools. BATOD provide a concise summary of the role of peripetitic Teachers of the Deaf.
