Tuberous Sclerosis (TS or TSC) is a genetic disorder which affects around 1 in 7000 births.

The disorder is so named because of benign calcifying tumours in the brain, though growths may also affect many other organs of the body.

TSC varies greatly in the severity of manifestation in terms of both its health and developmental implications.

Only around half of individuals affected are have learning difficulties which can range from mild to very severe.

Around 3/4 of individuals affected develop epilepsy most commonly in early childhood.

Around 1/4 of individuals have behavioural traits sometimes characterised in terms of Autistic Spectrum Disorder.
