CHARGE is a rare genetic condition affecting up to 1 in 10000 births. A variable complex of physical, cognitive and sensory impairments are involved. The condition is named from the features which are commonly seen: Coloboma - gap in the retina or iris Heart Abnormalities Atresia (Choanal) - complete nasal obstruction Retardation - physical & developmental Genital Abnormalities Ear Abnormalities Around two-thirds of individuals with CHARGE have dual sensory impairment and so in the UK, the charity Sense are an excellent and expert source of support and information for affected individuals.
