Williams Syndrome is a rare chromosome disorder which affects around 1 in 25000 births in the UK. Williams Syndrome is associated with moderate to severe learning difficulties. Children with Williams Syndrome generally develop articulate spoken language (so much so that Williams Syndrome is sometimes nicknamed Cocktail Party Syndrome) but generally apparent expressive language skills are markedly superior to the receptive which often gives a misleading impression of an individual's capability. Children with Williams Syndrome are frequently characterised as anxious, hyperactive and inattentive. Many children with Williams Syndrome are dyspraxic and/or have problems with gross and fine motor coordination.
