Aicardi Syndrome is a rare condition affecting girls, resulting from an x-chromosome defect. It is estimated to effect only a few hundred individuals worldwide. Diagnosis is generally made within a child's first few months. Aicardi Syndrome is associated with profound learning difficulties and frequent epileptic seizures. Features of the condition include a partial or complete absense of the corpus callosum, other serious brain abnormalities and lesions on the retina which adversely effect vision. A variety of additional physical disabilities are also reported.
