About Dyspraxia

Dyspraxia is a specific learning difficulty affecting an individual's ability to coordinate sensory input and motor control, sometimes including speech. Dyspraxia is estimated to affect as many as 10% of children, more commonly boys than girls.

Symptoms of dyspraxia might include unusual:

  • Apparent clumsiness

  • Excitability

  • Erratic handwriting

  • Speech and language difficulties

  • Difficulty dressing, beyond EYS

  • Difficulties (reluctance) in PE

  • Difficulty copying text/drawing

  • Difficulty with scissors, cutlery etc

  • If years pass, poor self-esteem or behaviour


Although a life-long condition early intervention, treatment and support can make considerable differences to individuals, both in terms of the manifestation of the condition itself and regarding their experience of and achievement in school generally.
